The Rutgers Center on Public Security offers this credentialing program to set a basic standard of excellence for people using Risk Terrain Modeling (RTM). RTM Certification is for professionals who are looking for additional recognition and achievement within their field. It identifies you as a skilled spatial risk analyst and problem-solver. It may make you more marketable and can be a valuable addition to your resume.
Eligibility: At least 5 months experience using RTMDx software and completion of a RCPS training program or enrollment in the RTM Training and Continuing Education Program.
Qualifications: Applications for certification must demonstrate a more-than-basic level of proficiency in Risk Terrain Modeling methods and practical implications of RTM. This may be achieved by (1) submitting an "industry standard" product demonstrating your application of RTM to a topic of interest and (2) correctly answering 3 questions relating to content from the book Risk Terrain Modeling: Crime Prediction and Risk Reduction and/or the online training tutorial available through the RTM Training and Continuing Education Program or the RTM Training and Certification Webinar.
How to Apply: Applications are accepted in the Fall and Spring, during the RTM Training and Certification Webinar sessions. To apply for certification, email RCPS at email@example.com (include your full name, mailing address, phone number, email address, work/employer affiliation, and a brief sentence describing your line of work/job sector). Include an attachment or link to your independently produced product demonstrating your proficiency in applied RTM. The RCPS certification committee will review these materials and, if they meet the qualifying standards, will send you 3 questions to be answered in writing. Certificates will be awarded to people who pass both parts of the certification process.
How to Renew: Certifications are valid for 2 years. You may renew upon (re)enrollment in the RTM Training and Continuing Education Program and then by submitting current proof of proficiency in applied RTM.
