History
Founded in 2002 by Dr. Leslie Kennedy (Dean and University Professor, now emeritus) as a University-wide center and based at the School of Criminal Justice (SCJ), the RCPS offers a multi-disciplinary approach to the academic study and practical application of ways in which democratic societies can effectively address crime, terrorism and other threats to public security. This involves the prevention of, protection from, and response to natural or human-made events that could endanger the safety or security of people or property in a given area. In an unprecedented way, the RCPS engages all parts of the University and community organizations in exploring the needs and major consequences of heightened security and better public safety. |
Mission
The mission of RCPS is to produce innovative research with practical methods to advance shared knowledge for the public good. |

Media Relations
Members of RCPS are available to media for interviews on topics ranging from local crime trends to national and global security issues. Priority is given to media inquiries about topics directly relating to RCPS matters, projects or programs. Experts prefer to be consulted on areas in which they have specific background knowledge rather than general opinion. We will match our faculty and associates as closely as possible to the topic to insure the best possible interview. All media inquiries should first be directed to the RCPS Director, Dr. Joel Caplan ([email protected]).
